Legacy of Hope Charitable Shoot

Cookie Monster
One of my favorite rescue groups to work with is Legacy of Hope Dog Rescue in Tulsa, OK. Started by Dr. Cristina Guerra, Legacy of Hope rescues all breeds of puppies and dogs, but one in particular that is near and dear to my heart – the Pit Bull. I became acquainted with Cristina a couple years ago when I did a charitable photo shoot in Oklahoma City for Pet Angels Rescue. Cristina and her volunteers drove all the way from Tulsa with their adoptable dogs to have them professionally photographed. Now that’s dedication to rescue!

The photos featured below were taken a few weeks ago during the massive heatwave blanketing Oklahoma. We started early in the morning, but as the day progressed and temperatures rose beyond 100, sweat began to pour down all our backs! The dogs couldn’t care less as they were more interested in the crazy lady making all the weird sounds (me), the really good treats they were getting for posing so great, and the guy behind me with the really big camera filming them. Michelle Lowry with 2NEWS KJRH was there to get a behind-the-scenes look at what we do and also speak with Legacy of Hope. Her piece will air Monday, August 13th at 5 p.m. on Channel 2 in Tulsa. In case you missed it, click here to watch it on KJRH online!

Legacy of Hope Dog intends to build a rescue facility and I want to help them do that. For a $300 donation, you’ll get all kinds of perks, but one really awesome one – a portrait session and free 8×10 with moi! Additional prints will be available at a discounted price, so this is your chance to help build a much-needed rescue facility in Tulsa and get a great perk in return! If you’d like to donate, visit their fundraising link here. They have a wide variety of donation levels to fit just about any budget. Also, don’t forget to grab a 2012/2013 Pit Crew calendar! We shot this calendar last winter, featuring gorgeous OU fraternity boys that just happen to love dogs! The calendar runs from June 2012 all the way through 2013. Click here to order the Pit Crew calendar at a hugely discounted price!

As you flip through the photos, remember there is a story behind each one. Like Slider, the American Staffordshire who was thrown out of a car by his owners, and yet Slider ran for almost a quarter-mile trying to catch up with them. Or the story of Victor, a bait dog at the early age of less than six months. Or Cookie Monster, a Dogue de Bordeaux, slated to die at an OKC shelter three times before she was saved by a coordinated effort of OKC and Tulsa rescues. Sad stories, they are, so why not help give them a happy ending? To get specifics on any of these dogs, visit Legacy of Hope’s Adoptables page where they have these and many more waiting for forever homes.
